Top Tips For Baking Success (Part 2)

We recently started a series in which we shared some of our top tips for baking success. With summer well underway, we don’t think there is a better time to brush up on your skills and get making some masterpieces in the kitchen.

You might fancy yourself a baking expert, but you won’t be quite Mary Berry if you don’t follow these little nuggets of advice.

Follow a Good Recipe

It might be tempting to just wing it and see what you can create on your own, but we think it’s much better to follow a tried and tested recipe when baking something for the first time. You should choose one from a trustworthy source and follow the instructions clearly. You don’t want to half follow them and then end up in a bit of a pickle!

Use The Correct Ingredients/Tools

If you recipe asks for self raising flour, you shouldn’t be using plain flour. It’s important that you’re using the correct ingredients for the job; it will differ between different types of baking. The same goes for your baking tools, it’s important that you use the correct tools for each type of job – the best baking comes from using the right instruments.

Know Your Oven

A recipe might tell you that your cake has to be in the oven for 30 minutes, but you should adapt this to your specific oven. If you know that your oven has a tendency to overcook everything, then you should definitely reduce the cooking time. The same also applies for those ovens that seem to take ages to cook anything – increase the time. We suggest checking on your baking at some point, to make sure it’s cooking nicely.
