Common Signs of Boiler Problems
With winter fast approaching its important you ensure your heating and boiler are in good working order so you can stay nice and warm this winter. Not only can a malfunctioning boiler be less energy efficient, effectively wasting your money, they can also potentially have implications for your health. It’s not always particularly obvious when there is a problem with your boiler as not all boiler problems will simply cause your heating to stop working. Here’s our quick guide to some signs to look out for if you suspect your boiler might be on the blink.
No hot water
One of the most common and obvious signs there is a problem with your boiler is if you’re not able to get any hot water out of your taps. This could be caused by a number of potential issues such as problems with the thermostat or water flow switch.
Switching itself off
If your boiler does not stay on and switches itself off, a number of components such as the pressure relief valve or thermostat may be at fault.
Strange sounds
Strange noises emanating from your boiler such as banging, gurgling, whistling or ticking can be another sign that there is a problem with your boiler, such as with the water pressure, or alternatively this could also indicate that there is air in the system.
Pilot light
If your pilot light goes out, or if the flame is orange or yellow instead of the usual blue then you really should get your boiler checked over immeadiately.
Higher gas consumption
If you notice that you seem to be using more gas than normal, but haven’t been using your heating more than usual this can be another key sign that there is an issue with your boiler.
