Aga Winter Maintenance Essentials

There’s no denying that winter is now in full swing and Christmas will soon be on its merry way. This time of year is the ultimate Aga season, and these great cookers are ideal for cooking all your favourite winter recipes and keeping you and your home warm and toasty this winter. The winter months also offer the opportunity to use your Aga for a range of other less traditional purposes too, such as drying clothes or even your favourite herbs. So here we give some handy hints and tips for keeping your Aga healthy this winter, so you can make the most of it, and ensure you and your Aga are prepared for the festive season ahead.

Clean

Make sure you give your Aga a good clean regularly, to make sure it keeps looking and working at its best. As a handy tip, it’s often a good idea to clean as you cook, to help prevent the build up of stubborn stains. Make sure you pay particular attention to the cooking rings of your Aga, as a build up of substances around these, such as carbon, can prevent them from heating properly. Hence cleaning these regularly will ensure your cooker continues to work as efficiently as possible. However remember to wait until your cooker has cooled down sufficiently before cleaning, to prevent any nasty accidents. It’s also important to use cleaning products designed specifically for Aga’s, as general cleaning products could cause damage to the enamelled surface of your Aga. Interestingly, Aga’s are in fact designed to be self-cleaning, and often simply wiping down the surface of your Aga with a dry cloth can go a long way towards helping you get rid of any dirt and grime.

Get it Serviced

It is essential to get your Aga serviced at least annually by a professional; this can help safeguard against breakdowns and could also ultimately help you to save on your heating bills too.  Now is the perfect time to get your Aga serviced before Christmas arrives, so you don’t have to worry about any cooker problems ruining your Christmas. Here at Range Experts we are specialists when it comes to Aga servicing in Cornwall, and can help make sure your Aga is running at its best, so you can make the most of your Aga this winter.

Keep an Eye on your Oil

If your Aga isn’t being supplied with enough oil this can cause a number of problems. For example, this can cause air to be drawn into the oil supply, which can reduce the efficiency of your Aga and cause problems when it comes to relighting. So make sure you keep an eye on the amount of heating oil in your domestic oil tank so you don’t run out, and never let your tank run empty. This is particularly important during the winter months when you will typically be using your Aga and central heating more often, so you can expect to run out of oil sooner. It can also be a good idea to make sure your oil tank is in good condition too, as a build up of deposits can significantly reduce the efficiency of your Aga. Luckily there are a number of oil additives specifically designed for Aga’s that can help tackle this problem and we will of course ensure that your oil tank filter is cleaned out on a service when required.
